Portland Construction (Sussex) Ltd is an established building company with over 30 years’ experience, based in East Sussex. Whether it is commercial or residential, new build or refurbishment we offer a full building service. We carry out a diverse range of building works, including plumbing, electrical and decorating works as well as property maintenance.

We specialise in structural building and steel works and the repair and restoration of listed buildings. Over the years we have worked on many listed properties in the Brighton and Hove area, including the Provincial Grand Lodge of Sussex, Brunswick Terrace and Courtney Terrace.

We provide a complete project management service whether working for private clients or surveyors, architects or interior design firms in the area.  This service takes clients through all stages of the build process, including architects drawings, structural calculations, planning permissions and building control sign offs.  All our staff are fully qualified with up to date certifications and are local to the area.  We take great pride in our attention to detail and the exceptional finish we provide on each building project we complete.

If you are interested in constructing your own home we can take you from the initial stages of design right through to the finishing touches. We are NHBC registered, so we can offer NHBC’s Buildmark 10 year warranty on your home to give you peace of mind.

We believe in investing in the future of the construction industry and over the last few years we have supported two apprentices in the successful completion of their courses and in becoming fully qualified in their chosen trade.  Both apprentices are now working full time within the industry.  We have worked in association with Greater Brighton Metropolitan College and Central Sussex College over the last few years and look forward to taking on more apprentices in the future.

We have been working with Barry and his team since October 2012. In that time Barry and his team have been dedicated to helping us renovate our front office and the exterior of the building as well as updating some basic amenities. Their dedication and understanding of our clients has been particularly appreciated.  Barry and his team first helped us introduce central heating throughout the building and then worked alongside an interior decorator to help transform our customer service areas into a comfortable and welcoming area. Barry’s experience has been invaluable throughout helping to keep costs down but still providing an excellent finish.  Finally they have provided extensive repairs to our garages and outside walls in time with the fitting of new signage. Their informal yet professional approach makes them very easy to work with and Barry and his team have already become invaluable members of our extended team. So much so that some of them pop in for a cup of tea just because they are in the area!

I cannot speak too highly of Barry and his team. I had decided on a face-lift for my decent but rather tired kitchen and ended up with a wonderful transformation, inspired by Barry’s imaginative design and planning and carried out by an amazing group of experts in their trade. Everyone was so considerate and nothing was too much trouble, a really lovely group of personalities to share my house with. Somehow the kitchen proved the springboard for further great flights of imagination on Barry’s part and I now have a superb new bathroom, boiler, airing cupboard, updated water and gas piping and safe and extensive new electrics. A lot of work over some months and all of high quality.  Busy as he is, Barry was always cheerful and patient and available to discuss the most trivial matters. I really felt throughout the project that I couldn’t have been in better hands.
